SQL Server, CPU & IO

SQL Server is very CPU and IO intensive and many SQL query performance and application performance problems will come dopwn to excessive processor or disk activity.

Although Windows servers create the illusion of a single CPU being able to carry out m,any task at the same time, it is not possible. The illusion is created by employing a time slicing approach where each task (thread) that is placed in the processor queue gets to use the processor for a small amount of time and then goes back into the processor queue to await its next turn.
